A calm, credible starting pointFOUNDATIONS is an 8-week, taught Level 3 programme designed for people who want to work with children and families ethically, reflectively, and responsibly.

This programme is for those who feel drawn to coaching and supportive work — but want to build proper foundationsbefore moving further. It offers teaching, structure, and professional clarity without rushing learners into practice or performance.

This is not a shortcut.

FOUNDATIONS is:
  • a taught programme with live teaching
  • professionally structured and assessed
  • focused on ethics, boundaries, and reflective practice
  • suitable as a first formal step into child and family coaching

Who FOUNDATIONS is forThis programme is suitable for:
  • parents and carers exploring supportive roles
  • practitioners working with children or families
  • career-changers considering child- or family-focused work
  • learners considering Level 5 study but wanting foundations first

No previous coaching qualifications are required.
What you will gain
By the end of the programme, you will have:
  • a clear understanding of coaching and mentoring practice
  • confidence in ethical boundaries and scope of practice
  • awareness of safeguarding responsibilities
  • experience of reflective, professional learning
  • a solid foundation for future progression if you choose

On successful completion, learners achieve:
  • Level 3 Certificate in Coaching & Therapeutic Practice with Children and Families
  • TQUK Level 3 Award in Coaching and Mentoring

How the programme is taught
FOUNDATIONS is delivered over 8 weeks through a blended model:
  • Fortnightly live online teaching sessions
    (Weeks 1, 3, 5, and 7)
    These sessions focus on explanation, professional discussion, and ethical clarity.
  • Weekly guided learning tasks
    Completed independently to support reflection and integration.
  • Portfolio-based assessment
    Written, reflective tasks — no exams and no public role-play.

Teaching is structured and supportive, with clear professional boundaries modelled throughout.
Weekly overview (at a glance)
  • Week 1 (Live): Foundations of ethical coaching practice - 8th February 11:30am - 1:30pm on Zoom 
  • Week 2: Communication and the coaching relationship
  • Week 3 (Live): Coaching models and structured conversations - 22nd February 11:30am - 1:30pm on Zoom 
  • Week 4: Safeguarding and professional responsibility
  • Week 5 (Live): Therapeutic thinking within coaching scope - 8th March 11:30am - 1:30pm on Zoom 
  • Week 6: Reflective practice and professional development
  • Week 7 (Live): Integrating learning and ethical practice - 22nd March 11:30am - 1:30pm on Zoom 
  • Week 8: Final portfolio completion and submission

Assessment and certification
Assessment is portfolio-based and reflective.
You will demonstrate:
  • understanding of coaching and mentoring principles
  • ethical awareness and professional responsibility
  • engagement with safeguarding and boundaries
  • reflective learning across the programme
Certificates are issued following successful assessment and quality assurance.

Progression
FOUNDATIONS is designed as a starting point.

After completion, learners may choose to progress into:
  • LaunchPad programmes (focused on professional identity and readiness)
  • Level 5 self-paced diplomas, including specialist pathways such as:
    • Therapeutic Play Coaching
    • Parent Coaching Practice
    • Child and Young Person Coaching
    • Trauma-Informed Coaching
    • Neurodiversity-Affirming Family Coaching

Progression is optional and learner-led. There is no expectation to continue.
